Frequently asked questions
Question: Am I candidate for dental implants?
Answer: If a patient has sufficient, healthy bone, and is in reasonably good health, they can have
dental implants.
Question: I have a bad tooth and want a dental implant. What should I do?
Answer: If the tooth is non-restorable by traditional methods then the tooth needs to be removed
before an determination for implant placement can be made. The healing time from extraction to
implant placement varies with individual healing between (3 to 6 months). We recommend that the
patient gets a site preservation graft at the time of extraction to speed the healing process and
preserve healthy bone.
Question: I have several bad teeth and want dental implants to replace all of my teeth upper,
lower or both, what should I do?
Answer: An accurate evaluation for dental implants cannot be done until your oral condition is
healthy enough for dental implants. This will involve extraction of the teeth, grafting, and wearing a
traditional denture while you are healing. After you have healed (usually 3 to 6 months), you can be
evaluated for dental implants.
Question: After my implant is placed, how long do I have to wait until I get my tooth?
Answer: In most cases it takes 3 months for a lower tooth and 6 months for an upper tooth
before osseointegration occurs and the implant is ready for the abutment and crown. In some
limited cases, a patient can be immediately loaded with the abutment and crown in the same day.
Question: Can I have all of my work done in your office?
Answer: We focus most of our time on the placement and restoring of dental implants. We do not
routinely provide general dentistry (filling, cleanings, dentures, partials, etc.) All extractions and
endodontic work is referred out to the appropriate specialist.
Question: Does RightChoice Dental place and do the crowns in the same office or do I have to go
somewhere else to get my crowns?
Answer: Dr. Long places the dental implants and restores them right here in the same location.
We have a milling center and dental laboratory here in our building.
Question: How many appointments does it take to get my implant and crown?
Answer: For patients with healthy bone it takes 3 appointments to replace a single missing tooth.
1st implant evaluation. 2nd implant placement and impression. 3rd placement of the abutment and
crown. Some patients may require a recheck appointment after placement.
